  • Prelude 1

    Beginner Strings Class

    Led by Jessica Clark

    Violin, viola, and cello classes for students with little to no previous experience, primarily for grades 3-5. Instruments and materials are provided.

    Beginner Strings Ensemble

    Led by DeAndre King

    This ensemble emphasizes various stringed instruments playing together in unity and harmony while focusing on building good habits of technique.

  • Rhapsody

    Intermediate orchestra

    Led by Devin Lacy

    Rehearsals emphasize the development of listening skills, theory, and continued importance of proper technique. Students are required to have a private teacher and should have their own instrument if possible; auditions are also required for this group.

  • Decatur Youth Symphony Orchestra

    Led by Jacob Frank

    Students meet for weekly rehearsals, have the opportunity to perform for the community, and develop their teaching and leadership skills through mentoring in the younger orchestras and classes.

  • Chamber Ensemble

    Led by Jacob Frank

    Students are encouraged to push themselves in their musical abilities through advanced repertoire. This ensemble is also available to play for corporate and community organization events. Please contact Jessica Clark for booking information.

All rehearsals and classes begin the week after Labor Day at the Alabama Center for the Arts Recital Hall.

Prelude 1: Mondays, 4:00-4:50pm

Prelude 2: Mondays, 5:00-5:50pm

Rhapsody: Tuesdays, 4:45-5:45pm

DYSO: Tuesdays, 6:00-7:30pm

Chamber Ensemble: Tuesdays, 7:30-8:15pm

Participation in any of these groups costs an annual fee of $150. Partial or full scholarships towards this fee or private lessons with one of our instructors are available upon application.

The deadline to apply for student assistance in the 2025-2026 orchestra season has passed. Applications for the 2026-2027 orchestra season will open on August 1, 2026.
